Backpack Appeal
The JPA received a note to thank all parents who participated in the recent backpack for the homeless
from Áine Hayes (S.N.A.) at Johnstown Boys’ National School. An astounding 185 backpacks were
donated from families all of which will help the homeless in inner city Dublin. Well done everyone! A big
thank you to Áine Hayes who coordinated this worthwhile appeal.

Monster Christmas Raffle
The Christmas Fair will be sadly missed by all this year. The schools have announced their Monster
Christmas Raffle in its place on December 21st at 11am. It will be available on live stream. All
donations and gift vouchers are very welcome. To donate prizes please email

Subscriptions
At the commencement of each school year parents are asked to pay a subscription to the Johnstown
Parents’ Association. The JPA relies on the subscriptions to be able to plan for future events like
guest speakers for parents on topics that concern children’s wellbeing. With COVID19 at the
forefront of our minds these talks are as important as ever and so to host events next year we are
dependent on your subscriptions to finance these informative talks. We would like to take this
opportunity to thank all those families who have paid their subscription through the online payment
facility.

For those who haven’t paid their €10 subscription fee it can be paid on

Get Active
The JPA’s recent fundraising initiative to motivate us all to get active while fundraising for both schools was a huge success. The feedback from the event has been fantastic as families of both schools stepped up to the challenge to walk, run, cycle or swim to raise funds. A whopping €2,836 was raised. Well done to all who participated and made it such a success.

Thank you all for your continued support in making a positive impact on the children’s school experience by enabling the JPA to assist the schools on your behalf.

From DLR Sports Partnership – Keeping families active

DLR Sports Partnership would be grateful if you could circulate the email below to your parents /student contact database. We have devised challenges to keep families active at home as we realise the importance of physical and mental health during this uncertain time. Please feel free to read the content below before sending.

Kind regards

The DLR Sports Partnership Team

————————————————————————–

We in Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Sports Partnership know that this is a very uncertain and daunting time for everyone. But we also know that being active and having fun with your family is so important for our physical and mental health especially at the moment. So we’ve put together four different activity Challenges to suit all ages and abilities. They’re easy to get involved in, a great way to keep motivated and best of all you can do them around the home with your family.

All Challenges will run for the next 4 weeks and we’d really love to hear how you progress through them by sharing on social media using #BeActive and emailing us at sportspartnership@dlrcoco.ie. Of course please make sure to follow all Department of Health guidelines with regards to Covid-19 and maintain Social Distancing https://www.hse.ie/eng/services/news/newsfeatures/covid19-updates/

Please see our website www.dlrsportspartnership.ie to view more details on all the Challenges and on the other work we do.

1 -The Grandparents 15 Minute Challenge

Who – for children and their grandparents

What – a fun challenge to encourage children to make regular phone contact with their grandparents and engage in activities with them (physical, social and mental).

How – just print off the attached flyer/chart, fill it in as you go and email back to use when you’re finished.

2 -Move to the Rhythm Dance Challenge

Who – for children and teenagers

What – visit our new YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPhBXjgEPP2wcLJeWpwSbQw to catch our dance tutor Cayisha demonstrate part of a new professionally choreographed routine each day from Monday to Thursday. Then join her again on Friday to go through the entire dance.

How – just watch and learn the routine each day, practice at home, record yourself (and your family) bringing the entire dance together on Friday and email us a clip.

3 -The Fighting Fit Challenge

Who – for teenagers and adults

What – fancy a tough but achievable fitness challenge? Have you ever played Call Of Duty and thought you could hold our own, but could you pass the fitness test to really join in? Here’s our chance. We will post a fitness program each week that if you follow will culminate in you matching yourself against the Irish Army fitness test to see if you would make the grade.

How – just follow the weekly exercise programs, get into a healthy routine and try the fitness test at home after 4 weeks.

4 -The Scrambled Leg Challenge

Who – for families and all ages

What – we’ve gotten out the measuring tape and have picked a few well known Irish landmarks that you and your family can pick to add up the kilometers from your daily walks to reach your chosen destination. This is a great one to also build in elements of geography, history, and maths for the budding homeschoolers among us.

How – just print off the attached flyer/chart, fill it in as you go and email back to us when you’re finished.

We hope these Challenges will help to build in the important daily activity and fun we all need, but if you have any queries or suggestions for other initiatives we’d love to hear from you.
